eBario Sdn Bhd has been instrumental in bringing into Bario various forms of tourism that also involve development activities that bring benefits to the community. Among them are:
Trekforce In 1994, the Raid Gaulois adventure race came to Sarawak, passing through Bario, and this gave an opportunity for the community to observe and participate in the organisation of adventure tourism of a world standard. This was followed by World Challenge Expeditions, composed of organised groups of school children, who first visited Bario in 1997, and then Trekforce Expeditions, an adventure tour operator who first brought a group to Bario in 2001. Their approach is to combine adventure tourism with social projects, such as re-building a bridge. Since then they have been visiting Bario annually and each year they bring volunteers who conduct a variety of projects in and around Bario that benefit the community.
Medic Force Medic Force provides health care training to developing country health care professionals and eBario Sdn Bhd is co-ordinating their activities in the Kelabit Highlands under the banner of "First-Aid for All".
Adrelanin Junkie In 2007, e-Bario Sdn. Bhd provided logistical and organizational support to Ginger Productions, a UK TV Production Company, for the production in Bario of the reality TV show “Adrenaline Junkie.” This is a TV programme that features celebrities undergoing arduous challenges in adventurous situations. Well known UK TV personality Jack Osbourne acts as guide to the guest celebrity. According to themselves, “Ginger Productions is one the best known names in UK television. We supply quality television content to UK broadcasters and sell shows to over 120 countries around the world. Ginger is known for its cutting edge and irreverent style, with shows such as the international hit ‘Jack Osbourne Adrenaline Junkie’ (ITV).” The production of this TV programme strengthened Bario’s reputation as an adventure travel destination as well as its event management skills and the community’s organizational capacity.
Mapping Cultural Sites e-Bario Sdn. Bhd is assisting Sarah Hitchner of the University of Georgia who is conducting a project involving the transfer of a Geographical Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) that records and maps the cultural sites of the area, including megaliths and longhouses. She is constructing a cultural database containing videos and ethnographic information which can be depicted on a GIS. Her work involves local people who she is training in the use of the GPS and on entering the data into the GIS. She has distributed seven GPS devices to villages in the surrounding area. The data they collect will be owned by the Kelabit people under the stewardship of e-Bario.
